Why pop music was so much better in the 80s

In the 80s it seemed that there were always new artists releasing songs every week and we were always treated to new singles from our favourite bands. There were one-hit wonders galore. One of them was even a stand up comedy routine and knocked out Stevie Wonder's "I just called to say I love you" from the number one spot in Australia. (George Smilovici - I'm tuff)

It seemed everyone had a chance to make it big on radio back then.  Some made it big in the 80s and never had the same success today, but many continued on to true greatness. Today bands come and go and many don’t seem to be around for long. That wasn’t the case in the 80s. Many remained around for a long time to come.

You can check my lists out here, including comments and photographs. There are many that I haven’t included that could be listed. I tended to go with the ones that hit the big times here in New Zealand.  See if there are any obvious ones I missed.
