Studying Preterism

Around 2000, I studied Preterism on the Internet and learned that Preterists believe all the end times happened as predicted in the first century AD. The Tribulation occurred then and Jesus returned, all within the life time of the people that witnessed his crucifixion. They quoted scripture to back this up as well as independent writings of events, which happened in the 1st century AD.

It really made a lot of sense too. More sense than what the futurists preached. It boggled my mind and it made me realise, ‘Wow!’ Maybe the futurists have it all wrong? Maybe, just maybe Jesus had already returned and right now, we are living in a kind of Millennium where Jesus reigns. After all, we sing that in our choruses all the time. ‘THE LORD REIGNS!’

I looked into both arguments, spending time on the message boards debating, but in the end, I could come to no real conclusion one way or another. In the end, I decided to sit on the fence on the subject, deciding to wait and see. However, it did make me realise just how easy it is for Christians to misinterpret scripture completely and to try to be extra careful not to do it myself. Question it all. Challenge it. Be sure that the message I’m getting really is correct.
