Reason 28

The strength/popularity of a church was always dependent on the charisma of the pastor.

One thing that I realise now when I look back at churches I’ve been in, is that they tend to be only as popular as their pastor is. I saw huge thriving churches take a dive in numbers once a new pastor took over.

There are no doubts in my mind that for a church to thrive it must have a charismatic leader that everyone loves, because if you don’t like the pastor, you soon find another church. It’s only natural, especially if that pastor preaches things you disagree with.

Humans don’t seem to like change either and a change of pastor is huge. He might not even be as likeable personality wise as the previous pastor, or on the other hand, he might be more likeable. Numbers may even grow because the new pastor is far more charismatic than the one before.

Christians talk about some churches being “personality based” churches. I would say they ALL are, at least the ones that have healthy numbers. After all, if the holy spirit is doing it’s job it should NEVER matter who the pastor is, should it? Jesus Christ is the head of ALL Christian churches.

Supposedly!
