Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. - Luke 6:38
When I look back at my parents lives… how faithful they were to God, how much they served people. They were as genuine at home as they were at Church. But their lives were a constant struggle financially and healthwise.
My mother constantly worked for her family and others. Totally selfless. She ended up in a lot of pain and misery in her final few months alive, in anguish because God wasn’t easing her suffering.
My father was born with a cleft pallet and was physically and emotionally abused by his parents as a child. Was such a hard worker as an adult but never got a break in his career. He never got respect from leaders in churches due to his alternate views on some topics. He was forced to retire early on the invalid’s benefit due to back troubles. Then he ended up with cirrhosis of the liver, quickly deteriorating in health both mentally and physically.
It’s all very well to claim they will get amazing rewards in Heaven, but talk is cheap.
And it’s not just my parents who didn’t get the blessings they deserved while they were alive. There are many great Christian people who never get a break.
So much for God blessing those who honour him.
Perhaps it just makes more sense not to believe in any gods? Life is hard and not everyone gets what they deserve, good or bad.
(Ok, I might sound like an angry atheist here, but only because I feel bad my parents struggled so much. It may be their beliefs in God that caused them many of their problems)
Reason 99: Christianity relies on scare tactics and emotional appeals
Reason 101: More and more of the bible is being considered metaphorical
