Reason 17

The Bible contains blatant lies

Here are a list of obvious bible lies I have found that stand out. It in no way includes all of them. No doubt many readers will attempt to claim they are not lies and put their own spin on them. I, however, take them at face value:

·         God will protect his followers from harm. Ps 91:1-16  (v9-10 in particular)

·         When a man’s ways are pleasing to the lord he makes even his enemies live at peace with him (Prov 16:7).  Jesus’s ways were pleasing to the lord, but his enemies weren’t at peace with him!

·         Seek and ye shall find. Matt 7:7  Many many people have sought and not found. I diligently sought for over 30 years.
Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

·         Wisdom will be given to those who ask.  James 1: 5-6

·         All things will be made known when needed. John 14:26

·         Bats are birds Lev 11:13-19

·         All birds are fed by God. Matt 6:26

·         If a man marries his brother’s wife they will be childless. Lev 20:21.

·         Christians can drink poison and be bitten by snakes and not get sick. Mark 16:18

·         God hates the sin not the sinner. All the following clearly state that God hates the people themselves. Sin is the REASON why he hates them. Hosea 9:15, Malachi 1:3, Romans 9:13, Leviticus 20:23, Psalm 5:5, Psalm 11:5, Proverbs 6:16, 19, Deut 22:5

·         Moses was the most humble man alive. Numbers 12:3 (whatever!)

·         John 7:17  - If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.

·         John.14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

·         In the name of Jesus, demons will have to flee.' Now there's another bare faced lie. I have seen the name of Jesus used on many people with so-called demon manifestations and the name never scared them away at all. I guess demons have evolved an immunity to the name of Jesus over the years.

·         Psalms 14:1: The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

·         God’s qualities are clearly seen and understood by all and that none are with excuse (Rom 1:20). It’s not obvious and many people have very good reasons why they don’t believe.

·         Jesus took our punishment for us. No he didn’t. Our punishment is death (perhaps even eternal punishment) and NO eternal life in Heaven. Where is Jesus now? Yes, enjoying eternal life in Heaven.

·         You will do greater works than me if you have faith in me. (Jesus) John 14:12-14, Name one Christian who has ever done works anywhere near as great as what Jesus supposedly did in the bible.

Thanks for your comments James. Some good points there.

As for miracles I've seen and heard many things that were supposed miracles. Even had a lot of so-called miracles happen in my life. Well I certainly believed they were miracles when I was a Christian. But the problem is they all had obvious natural explanations. Most "miracles" do. eg acts of other people or yourself, natural healings etc. I think if anyone is going to label something a miracle it should be obviously supernatural. Something that can't possibly be put down to natural causes.

You could have simply said “There is a Devil”. It is the biggest lie in the Bible as it undermines the true nature of God.
In fact it is the means by which someone may attempt to steal from God. If you paint God as wrathful, a being to be feared, an entity that can’t manage his creation without acts of vengeance and casting out; it is possible to destroy (for a time) faith, Love, and hope within a human heart. This makes for a big stick approach to governance, which is the point of the Bible if you accept the idea of the Devil. Don’t forget this is the same book that calls those who curse their fellow man-profits, those who killl-leaders, and those who keep slaves-fathers of nations. It also takes an omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent being and puts him squarely on the shelf and mostly “out of the way” by Genesis 10 after painting him as cruel and incompetent.

FYI: To date I have eaten poison ivy, nightshade, and hemlock as an act of faith. There is no darkness, there is no hell—>created by God, miracles are real: and if you haven’t yet seen them, God is preparing your mind as we speak.
I can’t claim the Bible is without positive guidance, but there are a lot of thorns for a “book written by God”.
