I’m not going to go into too much depth on this because it would take pages and pages, but I will list the conclusions I have come to, which shows me how immoral the bible is and how it reeks of barbaric ignorant man, rather than a wise all-knowing, loving and caring deity.
· The Bible endorses lifetime slavery, especially if you are not a Hebrew.
· The Bible allows the beating to death of slaves as long as they don't die within a couple of days. (Exodus 21:20-21)
· The Bible offers no (do's and don'ts) list, as to what constitutes reason(s) for beating your slaves.
· The Bible instructs that a slave is to be the master's property.
· The Bible instructs that a slave's offspring is also the slave master's property.
· The Bible instructs that you can bequeath slaves to your sons as property.
·
The New Testament tells slaves to obey their masters, rather than telling the masters to set their slaves free. (Eph 6:5, Col
3:22)
(I can add more scriptural references if you like, but you should be able to find them easily)
IMPORTANT
Indentured Servitude and Slavery are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. The bible makes a clear distinction and endorses BOTH.
Leviticus 25:39 "And if your brother becomes poor beside you, and sells himself to you, you shall not make him serve as a slave: he shall be with you as a hired servant (indentured) and as a sojourner."
Only fellow Hebrews get to be indentured servants. Foreigners and conquered foes only qualify as slaves.
Regardless, indentured servitude it STILL IMMORAL as it is the owning of another person as property. Working for a living like we do now is NOT being owned as property and we can quit any time we want to. Indentured servants CAN'T quit and if you give them a wife you can manipulate him into agreeing to be your property FOR LIFE! (Exodus 21:2-5)
I will address one ridiculous argument made by apologists and that's the one that God knew humans were going to take slaves anyway so he wanted to regulate it. This is total bullshit because the God of the bible is not the type of God who panders to what humans want. With God it's "my way or the highway". Humans will do all sorts of other terrible things too, but God doesn't put regulations in place for them. Like, rules around murdering people, stealing, lying, worshipping other gods, etc etc. He tells you what he wants and threatens to destroy you if you don't obey him.
NOWHERE in the bible does God ever say slavery is wrong and that slaves should be set free. In fact the New Testament tells slaves to OBEY their masters!! (Eph 6:5, Col 3:22) God would outlaw slavery if he was against it.
I have one link, which is to my section of the website, where I have my fictional pastor/bishop, Jake O’Brian preaching about being a slave to God and how the bible justifies it. It’s tongue-n-cheek but I think it shows the immorality of the bible.
