What I have learnt from TV detective shows
During the 70s and 80s detective shows were some of the most popular shows on TV. There were so many of them and who had time to watch them all? There were many memorable ones and many not so memorable. There are things that they all had in common though, things you could learn about REAL private investigators!
They always have someone in the police department who they can manipulate to gain information for them.
They always know how to unlock doors using a credit card.
A detective’s gun never runs out of bullets until he has a clear shot at his quarry.
They just about all have cool surnames.
They always have flash cars that would be noticed immediately by anyone they’re tailing, but which normally aren’t.
Serious wounds and injuries heal up within a few hours.
There is always a parking spot available when a PI is in a rush.
Single detectives will always fall in love and their love will be killed tragically during one of their cases.
They almost always have a gullible sidekick who will do all their dirty work for them.
In a car chase you will always be on the tail of your quarry quickly even if it took you a lot of time to to get to your car.
In a foot chase the chaser will 90% of the time choose the right door or turn to take even though the person being chased is out of their sight.
People on foot, being pursued by a car, will always try to outrun the car rather than dodge out of the way.
If it’s a male/female partnership they will always hook up eventually, no matter how much conflict they might have had.
