100+ reasons I no longer believe - 65

God's existence is NOT obvious

Romans 1:20

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Christians use this ridiculous verse to try to tell atheists that really deep down they do believe because God’s existence is so obvious. The bible even tells us so! Never mind it’s simply the opinion of a very flawed man who was wrong about so many things. The fact is it’s a complete load of nonsense.

Excuses? No, excuses. Valid reasons! So many reasons that show that God’s existence is NOT obvious! Many of us want to believe but simply are UNABLE to. And supposedly God is going to judge us guilty and throw us into hell even though we are UNABLE to believe.

Let’s get real here. God’s existence is not obvious for many VALID REASONS. Here are a few:

·        He has decided to stop performing clearly supernatural miracles like he once did in bible times and now prefers to use natural means when it comes to answering prayers or performing so-called miracles.

·        He requires faith (choosing to believe) rather than providing real evidence. Faith that can be used to believe in any old crazy thing you like.

·        He will not force himself upon us even if we want him to and he won’t ramp up the evidence for those of us who need it.

·        He expects that what is good for one is good for all. Nothing tailored to suit people who are more skeptical, less likely to be taken in by con-artists, or less able to understand.

·        He does not have the ability to get us to understand certain things. He can’t speak down to our level.

·        He does not have the ability to convince many of us of his existence. Some of us are just way too stubborn and blind for him. He can’t deal with repression and denial either.

·        To provide his crucial message to us, he uses a book written by fallible humans in ancient languages rather than imprinting it into our brains in our own native tongues. He is UNABLE TO or WON’T provide us with his own written versions. We have to rely on fallible human translators looking at versions of his word that we have no originals for.

·        He uses humans to act as his spokes people rather than speaking to us directly.

·        He uses natural disasters, viruses, illnesses to punish and kill people. Things that don’t require him to be directly involved in any of it.

  •    He gets humans to do most of his judging and killing for him.

  •   Many of these methods involve collateral damage.

·        He needs humans to defend him and a branch of defence known as Apologetics to justify him rather than him standing up for himself.

·        His existence can’t be tested scientifically.

·        He needs philosophical arguments with faulty starting premises to prove his existence.

·        He will not conduct his final acts of judgement until after we’re dead when it’s TOO LATE for us to amend our ways.

·       He gave no warnings to us about the damage we were doing to the planet, ie pollution, over fishing/hunting.

  •   He no longer creates anything new except for horrific viruses       that cause suffering. There are no amazing new species of   animals cropping up or replenishment of endangered species.

To me, this is an overwhelming list of evidence that shows a god that is NOT obvious… and a very impotent god too for that matter. One would also be justified in saying that these are attributes of a god that is IMAGINARY! In fact they seem like a dead giveaway to me.

I don’t buy the argument that for God to prove himself to us, would be a violation of our freewill and somehow that will mean we will be forced to worship him. The devil and his demons had adequate proof, but their freewill was not violated. They still chose to rebel. And the bible tells us that one day “Every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is lord”.  (Philippians 2:10) Will our freewill be violated on that day?

Some people would ask, what would it take for you to believe? I reply, “I have a number of ideas, but it doesn't matter. God would know exactly what it would take and if he loved me as much as he claims, he would do whatever it took”.
